Happy Homecoming weekend!
We are enjoying many stories in the class and working well in pairs and in small groups. Ask your how a pet can be an important friend and how do we care for animals? The children are doing a great job with reading and writing. The children wrote what pet they would pick and created a poster. I am impressed with how focused they are while working! The children are doing a great job visualizing, using evidence from the text, and responding in writing about what they have read. We enjoyed the stories Finding Cal, Not Norman: a Goldfish Story, Taking Care of Pepper, and Lola and Tiva: An Unlikely Friendship. Ask your child what each story was about and what story was fiction or non-fiction.
The children are doing an excellent job building stamina with reading to self, listening to reading, working on writing, working on word work, reading to a partner, and reading with me. I am very proud of how well they are engaged with their work! They love to read and work on their reading skills!
In Fundations, we worked on bonus letters and glued sounds. Ask your child what makes certain words have glued sounds. The children are doing a great job applying their skills to their work!
In Math, we completed Unit 1 in math and will be starting Unit 2 that will focus on math facts and strategies. Please continue to practice addition and subtraction facts at home for at least 10 minutes a day.
We had a great time visiting at the Bay Village Library. I hope your child told you about what the library has to offer. If your child has not signed up for his or her own library card, this is a great time to do it!
We received letters from our 6th grade pen pals from Mrs. Szelesta's science class. We wrote our pen pals back a letter answering their questions. It will be fun to have a pen pal with a Bay Middle school 6th grader. We will get a chance to meet them this school year!
We are enjoying learning about being more mindful with our breathing and listening. We are learning skills to help us to stay focused and to keep us calm.
Today, an email was sent to you from Brian Reynolds regarding your child's log in to Clever. It is a new way for your child to log in quicker to all the programs we use at Normandy at home and school. I am sending an orange index card with your child's QR code. Please read Brian Reynolds email to see how to log in. If you have any questions, please ask! They do not have to remember any passwords or codes!
