We are getting into a Routine!
We are getting into our 2nd grade routine. The students are doing a great job working together as a class.
The monthly reading log is due Friday, September 27. I will choose a few titles from the list for your child to take an Accelerated Reading quiz. If your child has finished a book before Sept. 27, he or she may take an AR quiz. Please make sure your child is reading a book at the correct reading level. Please use the AR website to find books at your child reading level range. www.arbookfind.com
We have been enjoying reading stories in our Wonders reading series. We have enjoyed reading about friends and families. The children are doing a great job visualizing, using evidence from the text, and responding in writing about what they have read.
The children are doing an excellent job building stamina with reading to self, listening to reading, working on writing, working on word work, reading to a partner, and reading with me. I am very proud of how well they are engaged with their work! They love to read and work on their reading skills!
I hope you are listening to your child read daily for 20 minutes or more. It also helps build vocabulary when a child hears a book read to them, that is a year or two above his or her own level. I hope you can find time to enjoy books together this way, too.
In Fundations, we worked on digraphs blends, and closed syllable words Next Unit we will work glued sounds, bonus letters, and new trick words. The children are doing a great job applying their skills to their work! Thank you for practicing with your child at home.
In Math, we have been working with the number grid, money, and problem solving skills. We are doing an awesome job applying our math skills to our work.
We have been taking Brain Breaks through a website called Go Noodle. The website is www.gonoodle.com If you would like to use this website at home, you will need to sign up and it is free. It may be helpful to do a "Maximo" or a "Flow" stretching exercise before doing homework. The children love doing the exercises and it does help them to be refocused. We will be adding Mindfulness lessons to our days starting next week.
Upcoming Events:
September 12 Walking field trip to Bay Library- permission slips due 9/9/19
September 13 Picture Day- forms went home a few weeks ago.
September 20 Homecoming parade and game
September 25 Normandy Pride Day-wear Bay Blue or any Bay Spirit wear.
Have a great weekend!
