We learned about the open syllable and practiced spelling words with the open syllables. We learned that a syllable that ends with a long vowel sound is called an open syllable. The students are doing a great job applying the spelling rules.
We have been enjoying reading about prairie dogs, turtles, eagles and bears through our Wonders reading series. Ask your child to tell you something new he or she learned about each animal.
We wrote Dear Santa letters and created a Tree-a- Claus to decorate our classroom for December.

Thank you for supporting your child's reading at home. The students are doing well on the accelerated reading quizzes on the books they read on the monthly reading log. The December reading will be due on December 18 so the children can take their accelerated reading quiz on the books they have read before winter break. If your child wants to take a quiz before December 18, he or she can bring in the book and take the quiz. Please help your child with comprehension by asking questions while your child is reading the book. A special reading log will be sent home for Winter break reading.
We enjoyed the visit from the Natural History Museum and pretended we were on a dinosaur dig. It was fun using the clues to figure out the kind of dinosaur.
