Happy New Year!
Happy New Year! I hope you are having a good start to the New Year! The students came back from break ready to work and learn!
We started off the New Year by writing goals for the year and picked one word we can focus on this year to help others and ourselves. We finished the 1st semester of 2nd grade. It is amazing how fast the year is flying by! This is a great time for the students to focus on a goal or two to work on during the 2nd semester. Report cards will be coming home next Tuesday in your child's backpack. Please go over the report card with your child and sign and return the envelope.
The students are showing growth with their reading skills. Thank you for helping your child choose books at the correct reading level. I am so proud of their growth. Keep reading!
We enjoyed the story Stranger in the Woods and answered questions from the story. Ask your child who the stranger was in the woods. We enjoyed the story Snowflake Bentley and created a beautiful shaped snowflake. We also enjoyed the story Snowmen at Night and created a snowman at night. It is fun to read stories about snow.
We have been working with the new syllable type -"r controlled vowels"- "ar" and "or". Thank you for working with your child on the Fundation skills.
In Math, we have been working with coins and making change. The students are doing a great job using different coins to the show the same amount of money. We are also working on addition and subtraction strategies. Please keep practicing math addition and subtraction facts. By the end of 2nd grade, your child should know the addition facts 0-18 fluently. The students created place value snowman.
Upcoming Dates:
January 20 No school- Martin Luther King, Jr. day
January 28 Judy Moody and Stink play at Stocker Center.
Permission slip will be coming home next week.
Have a great weekend!
Anne Hart
