Happy End of February!
Thank you for the fun Valentine's Day party and for all my valentines. Thank you for the parents who helped and sent in items to make the party special! The class had a great time!
Please make sure your child has boots and a change of shoes during this season. The playgrounds can get very muddy! Please make sure your child has shoes to wear so they can participate in gym and walk around the classroom and building. We would suggest putting a plastic bag inside the boots to remind your child to make sure shoes are in the backpack. We will try to be outside so please make sure your child is dressed for the weather!
We worked with "ea", "ee", "ey" vowel combinations. We learned that usually the first vowel will do the talking. Thank you for your support at home with the Fundations homework and spelling practice.
We enjoyed reading The Picture Book of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln and learned facts about the presidents. We started our research on the presidents. We are gathering information on the president we are assigned and will write a report in class. The children will share their reports with the class and then they will come home. It is a fun way for the children to learn about the presidents of the U.S.A. and how to gather research.
We have been working with strategies to add double digit numbers with carrying a group of 10. The students have done great with partial sums, base ten blocks, open number line, and checking their answers with ballpark estimates. We will continue to work on these strategies.
I hope you are enjoying reading Gooseberry Park and meeting all the fun characters. Please follow the calendar with the daily reading with your child. The March reading log will be coming home soon. Thank you for reading at home with your child. It is such a special time!
We were visited by a few Bay High school athletes. They came and read to the class and gave each student a new book. They will be visiting 3 more times this school year. It is a fun way for the high schoolers to connect with the 2nd graders. I enjoyed listening to the conversations. It was an awesome experience for all!
It is Winter high school sports's playoff season time and we are back working on cards for high school athletes. The class is very creative with the cards and the high schoolers really feel special when they get a personal card. I dropped off cards to the girls' basketball team this week and they ran to open their cards! One senior told me that getting a card is the best part of playoffs! It is the simple things in life!
Upcoming Events:
February 26- Pride Day- wear Bay Blue or Bay clothing
February 28- February reading log is due.
March 13- No school - Teacher's workday
March 16 - No school
