Rockstars Second Graders

We discussed Martin Luther King, Jr. life and put his important life events in chronological order. We learned about his life and how he was a peaceful and kind man. We have been working with the various spellings of the "r controlled vowels".  Please review with your child the words that have "ar", "or", "ir", "er", and "ur".   Thank you for working with your child on their spelling skills.   We have been working with number story problems and using diagrams to organize the problems.  W e have been working with coins and making change.  The students are doing a great job using different coins to the show the same amount of money.  We are also working on addition and subtraction strategies.   Please keep practicing math addition and subtraction facts. Happy New Year!  I hope you are having a good start to the New Year! The students came back from break ready to work and learn! We started off the New Year by writing goals for the year and picked one word we can focus on this year to help others and ourselves.  We finished the 1st semester of 2nd grade.  It is amazing how fast the year is flying by!  This is a great time for the students to focus on a goal or two to work on during the 2nd semester.   Report cards will be coming home next Tuesday in your child's backpack.  Please go over the report card with your child and sign and return the envelope. The students are showing growth with their reading skills.  Thank you for helping your child choose books at the correct reading level.  I am so proud of their growth.  Keep reading!
